Hydraulic Reports for Bridge Replacement Projects of the MA Highway
Department
Prepared hydraulic reports documenting hydrology, hydraulics,
and pier/abutment scour protection for four MA bridges:
Hix Bridge, E. Br.
Westport River, Westport; Dexter Road Bridge, Laundry Brook, Newton; Potter Road
Bridge,
Mumford River, Douglas; Thompson Street Bridge, Powwow River,
Amesbury.
Farm River, E. Haven and N. Branford, CT
Created an unsteady-flow HEC-RAS
model to investigate combinations of bridge removal and culvert
enlargement
alternatives to reduce flooding upstream of Interstate I-95’s undersized
culverts.
Aberjona River, Winchester, MA
Updated statistical analyses of USGS
gage streamflow records, and used HEC-RAS to determine
with- and without-project
stage-frequencies at damage areas for this channelization project.
Flood Insurance Studies & Flood Hazard Identification Studies, VT & CO
Involved with all aspects of numerous flood studies covering well over 100 miles
of river.
Efforts included: determination of hydrology; field surveys of
cross-sections, bridges and culverts; setup and
calibration of HEC-2 models;
floodplain boundary mapping; report preparation; and presentations to town
officials.
Martins Pond, N. Reading, MA
Used an unsteady-flow HEC-RAS model to
evaluate proposed changes in size of the Route 62
culvert on peak flood levels
and flood durations at a critical access road to Martins Pond.
Strongwater Brook, Peabody, MA
Developed a HEC-HMS model to evaluate
the benefits of increasing flood storage at Meadow Pond
to reduce downstream
flooding.
Mill Pond Dam, Stamford, CT
Created a HEC-RAS model in order to assess
the hydraulic impacts of dam/floodwall removal,
and subsequent channel
stability.
Wiswall Dam, Durham, NH
Used HEC-FFA to update hydrology of the Lamprey
River, followed by use of a HEC-RAS model
to model flood and low flows, and to
evaluate construction of a nature-like bypass channel for fish passage purposes.
Musquashcut Pond, Scituate, MA
Evaluated the impacts of tide gate
setting on pond water surface elevations and flushing using an unsteady-flow
HEC-RAS
model of the pond, brook, Gulf Estuary and Cohasett Harbor.
Bostik Dam, Middleton, MA
Updated Ipswich River hydrology using HEC-FFA.
Set up a HEC-RAS model to ascertain the impacts of
drawing down the pond in
advance of a flood on downstream flooding, and to evaluate the impacts of dam
removal. |
